Many generators output a very poor sine-wave (if it can even be
called a sine wave) and line-interactive UPSs simply won't 'see' the
generator.
However true online double conversion UPSs don't care if the genny
outputs a lumpy square wave with spikes, harmonics, noise, etc.
If you buy an expensive, quality genny then you probably be able to
use a line interactive UPS but otherwise go for a true online double
conversion UPS.  I've got both types in stock.

Long runtime UPSs have a lot of batteries.   Consider the weight
factor!  I sold one a few months ago.  Weight approx two thirds of a
tonne.   :-)
