Re: [OT] Windows XP Dynamic Disks

Hi,

I have a dynamic disk, in Raid 5 config, I have 8 x 250GB drives, with an
A=
daptec controller card. I must say I am very please with it and it was
eas=
y to setup. Beauty of it is that if a disk fails I will not loose all my
d=
vd's just install a new disk, and the array fixes it's self.

It is important to by a decent control card, so you do not load up your
sys=
tem too much. I am told that motherboard based arrays are not as good as
o=
nes which use a seperate card. The cards are quite expensive, ISTR around
=
=A3350 - 400 for an eight disk card.

I don't use it as my main drive, so can't comment on it as a primary
partit=
ion.

With your 3 x 250GB disks you would in raid 5 get 500GB, but you could
alwa=
ys add to it as you need to, you only effectively loose one disk.

Cheers

Dan

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] Windows XP Dynamic Disks

Does anyone on here have any recommendations as to whether dynamic
disks are a good idea in WinXP?

I have a media server with 3x250Gb disks in it, and was considering
changing them to dynamic, so they appear as one drive

Are there any potential pitfalls with dynamic disks? I assume if one
fails it doesnt take the others with it..?

Thanks

Simon
