Re: COM Port help please...

Hi Dean

What Rohan was suggesting was to short pins 2 + 3 on the serial port
connected tho the clipsal pci and type some characters while having
Hyperterminal open (ensuring echo character is turned off in Hyperterminal
config) if all is well those characters should appear on the screen as its
receiving the character its sending.........
Hope that makes sense.... Short the pins using a spare db9/db25
socket......

Frank

Subject: [ukha_d] COM Port help please...

Got my £99 Dell server running lovely now on Win2003.

But something seems to have gone wrong....

I'm running Charmed Quark HA software controlling amongst other things CBUS
via the COM port.

All was well, but the COM port seems to have stopped working - it shows up
fine in Control Panel etc - can connect with Hyperterminal, but cant see
anything coming in or out.

Is there a way of actually testing the COM port to see if it is working - i
was told to short a couple of pins out - but not convinced i actually did
it
right - and not sure what would have happened if i did get it right.

Suggestions greatly appreciated before i go and buy a PCI serial card.

After a steep learning curve Charmed Quark is a great piece of software -
and i might even suggest better than Mainlobby :)

Dean.
