For sale:

Laptop based digital photo frame.

A project that I nearly finished, but now haven't the time to complete.

Dell Inspiron 3000 laptop with 12 inch TFT screen. Stripped down and
mounted in a beech wood frame.
Upgraded with a 10Gb HDD in a removable caddy and 128Mb RAM.
The screen has had its plastics removed, and then been mounted on a
custom cut cardboard mount behind the frame glass.
The motherboard is mounted behind the frame with the PCMCIA slots
accessible from the side of the frame.
Power supply connector accessible from the side of the frame, power
switch moved to the lower side of the frame so easily accessible.
Speakers and mic are mounted in the frame and are still functioning.

Designed to stand on a table top rather than be wall mountable.

Currently running Damn Small Linux, will boot and run a photo slideshow
automatically. Will also run Windows 98 or possibly 2000.

Main work to complete is to sort out networking (if you want to) and
tidy up the rear of the frame. Some of the laptop motherboard is still
visible at the rear, so not great if you have tiny fingers around. I
have built a basic balsa frame around the back to hide most of the
gubbins, but this needs improving. Alternatively mount the whole lot in
a deeper frame.

Also comes with a CD-ROM drive and floppy drive that can be used with
the media bay in the machine to load a new OS, digital photo files etc.

I simply haven't the time to make it kiddy proof or to spend getting the
linux to do what I want in terms of power management, so I'd rather
someone else made use of it rather than it sitting on a shelf.

Offers accepted for either the parts of the whole lot including the frame.

Pictures available for anyone who wants them

Simon
