I second that .. I've done one XBox with and eXecuter chip and two
soft-mod=
ded. Softmodded was far quicker and easier and runs XBMC a treat :)=20
I still needed the chipped box to get the images onto the memory card in
th=
e first place but you can buy/borrow a memory card with the files already
o=
n it if you know where to look (fleabay or PM me). You also need an
origina=
l copy of SplinterCell, Mech Assault or 007 Agent Under Fire to boot to
the=
hack screen and install ( I used SpliterCell , =A32 off fleabay). Only dis=
advantage of the softmod that I know of is that its harder to install a
lar=
ger hard disc (and apparently some games can remove it.. but I rarely play
=
games on it anyway, its a MediaPC :))

Having said all that I had no trouble soldering the chip in the original
xB=
ox, although I seem to remember its the D0 wire that controls if the chip
i=
s active or not so you may want to to double check that wire.

(you probably don't want to hear this but) have you thought of doing a=20
softmod instead? I have two boxes done this way with no opening of=20
cases, screwing or soldering.
