Re[2]: [OT]: Haupagge mediampv thoughts anyone?

You can get an optical or coax digiatl output from a mediMVP but you
need a soldering iron. Whether the Hauppauge s/w supports it is another
matter, but the MVPMC does. It is a Linux based system running on a PowerPC
freely available and with quite an active development group.

But Simon is right about MPEG4. There's no support in the MediaMVP hardware
and the processor isn't up to it. I use mine for MPEG2 ex freeview cards
on the server which it does well. I use XBMC for movies (in a different
room). People (not me) have used VLC to transcode on the fly to play MPEG4
source on the MPEG2 MediaMVP.

Both have their foibles though - I locked up my XBMC twice today watching a
recorded TV show :-( (But I've had Freeview boxes and Cable TV boxes lock
up too so it's not that different).
