Yup.  It would make sense to have it turn off a (preferably configurable)
time after the engine switches off.  This would let you do the bits you
want when the engine is off.

IME, few systems are good at recalculating routes.  As for going via
another place, you can enter it into the unit, or just zoom out to see more
of the map.  Well, you can with TomTom Mobile 5, which is my current sat
nav of choice.
