RE: Speech & HA
I use speech a lot, but not recog. Every now and then I try the recog
(nothing fancy, just HS and the recog built into Windows) but it's rubbish,
and self-defeating. Imagine the scene....
Me: "All off"
Comp: "Answer telephone, confirm?"
Me: "no"
C: "Cancelled"
Me: "All off"
C: Study lights on, confirm?"
Me: "NO"
C: "Cancelled"
Me: "ALL OFF"
C: "The weather for today is..."
Me: "{expletive deleted!}"
And so ends the experiment.
Speech is handy though, although I've not set up again following the house
move, I had it announcing visitors at the front door, cars into the garage,
TV programmes about to start and weather forecasts. As the alarm now spits
out X10, I should be able to have some intimidating warnings and welcome
messages linked to alarm events too.

'just wondered is anyone is really using speech & speech recognition as
an everyday part of running their HA ... and if so, how reliable a
method they find it ... it would be nice to have it, if it works without
fuss ... !
