Re: Re: MythTv DVB (Help)

Have you seen http://www.ethics-gradient.net/myth/mythdvb.html
for details
on setting up DVB cards. I have tried different DVB cards and tested with
tzap and mplayer before using mythtv. Once I had done an original scan on
Belmont, MythTV seems to be able to scan itself for channel changes - but
I've also had to manually edit the channels table in the database a couple
of times to get rid of dross and merge entries.

I didn't know the Belmont frequencies so I started with Wolfbane
http://www.wolfbane.com/ukdtt.htm
which gives for WinterHill -

103.00 + Winter Hill (E) 56 10k 734 66 10k 712 68 10k 712
67 10k 682 60 10k 650 63 10k 650 CD H SD660144 438

showing the channels for the multiplexes as 56,66,68,67,60 and 63. It also
has QAM information.

The OffCom site also has digital transmitter information
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/reception_advice/digital_trans_guide/show_tra
nsmitter.asp-siteID=43.html N.B. note the offset values, you will need
these.

I then went to DigitalSpy - http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/terrestrial/tuning/
which told me the centre frequencies for each channel

So multilpex 1 BBC is channel 56 with a positive offset, and has a centre
frequency of 754MHz. Write that as 754000000 and add the offset of 167KHz
gives 754167000 (This is slightly different from the figure I quoted from
the uk-Winterhill file!)

You can work the others out and make a better uk-Winterhill file, runs scan
and get a channels file and then use tzap to see if you get lock, and
finally mediaplayer to watch the TV.

You may find that your DVB card needs a kernel upgrade - I started with
knoppmyth and had to tweak the modules for a Pinnacle card and upgrade the
kernel for a Hauppauge Conexant chip card.

I started with an AverMedia 761, and added a Pinnacle but they wouldn't
work together so I pulled the Pinnacle and tried a Hauppauge, finally
adding a second Hauppauge with the AverMedia as the lowest priority.

Now I'm fretting about the upgrade to MythTV 19 as I've done quite a bit of
fiddling. :-(
