[OT] Dell WS2600 LCD TV - picture quality ?

Hi,

I know some of us bought the WS2600 LCD TV that DELL were clearing
out just before Christmas, and am wondering if anyone else's does
strange things to the picture ?

I bought mine as a "gift" to SWMBO for use in the bedroom and
when I
initially received it I plugged the XBOX into it to see what the display
was like; and was very impressed (for the money). Since then I've installed
it in the bedroom and SWMBO uses it while I sit downstairs and watch my
programmes on the TiVo.....ahhh..married bliss ;)

Anyway, the other night I actually went to bed early and she
was watching TV (via a Freeview box via the scart connector) and
I noticed that a strange thing was happening. Its a strange effect
to try and describe but basically areas of the picture seem to move
very slightly independently of other areas.. e.g if the TV is showing
someone's face then the hair will move slightly independently of the
face making it look like they're wearing an ill fitted wig. Its strange
in that the effect is not always present but does happen very frequently.
Another example was a family sitting on a couch with a dado rail behind
them, as I watched the patterned paper below the dado rail was moving up
and down slightly while everything else (people, dado and paper above
dado rail) stayed consistent... made it appear to be floating behind the
TV..
almost 3D.. VERY disconcerting.

I almost wonder if this is down to an error in the interlace too
progressive
scan conversion or scaling algorithm. It also seems worse on American
programs for some reason i.e. ER etc..

Of course SWMBO is perfectly happy with it.. but then she claims to see
no difference between composite and RGB !

Anyone seen this effect ? Should I be sending it back to DELL or are they
all like that ?

Oh.. the other thing that may or may not be related is that the freeview
box is a tiny BUSH scart box not much bigger than a packet of cigarettes.
I have this connected to the TV and have selected RGB input but the TV
will only see composite from it. If I connect the BUSH to the downstairs
(CRT) TV works fine (in RGB) and if I connect the DVD player (via the same
scart) to the DELL it will display RBG.. so it seems to some compatibility
issue between the BUSH and the DELL..

Cheers

Marcus
