Baby broke MS XP Media Centre?

  • Subject: Baby broke MS XP Media Centre?

Following our 15 month old getting hold of the media remote, we now
find
that recorded TV (DVR-MS) and DVD rips (Video and Audio _TS) have no sound,
whilst AVI files of various types do, and so do other media centre noises!

Any ideas what is wrong? Can he really have done this, or is it unrelated?

Coincidentally we're starting to fill up the disks, and would like to
compress some of the (now silent) content (children's TV / animation) into
DivX or XVid, as well as some of the DVR-MS files. Any recommendations for
software to do this, a) in batch, b) as recorded by the tuner card?

Many thanks,

Phil
