Sure - you will hear xAP and xPL mentioned on the list sooner or later -
they are efforts started by List members to provide a "glue" to
let
disparate systems work together (and have grown far beyond that!)

I use a combination of X10 and some homebrew electronics to provide the
control/automation for lighting etc, with xPLHal as the control software
(it's a free download)
