This is what Bill Gates has in his home!  I believe he can choose a music
track and it will follow him from room to room as he moves through the
house.

I looked into using RFID for my house a couple of years ago but it was too
difficult/expensive etc... at the time.
I decided to use PIRs for room occupancy.
However, using RFID tags opens up loads of home automation possibilities. 
One I especially like is the fact that your alarm system can be active
constantly.  ie. the alarm would activate if the PIR was triggered and
there wasn't a valid tag in the room.  No more sneak thieves!

Reed switches would only work if the door opened/closed - won't work if the
door was open to start with, and how do you work out if someone if going
in/out?

I know im probably a bit late with this and dont know alot about it
but what about using recessed reed switches in doorways insted of beam
breakers.
Also whats to say rfid tage need to be implanted they could just as
easily be used in a badge or a card or something.
