Reed switches would only work if the door opened/closed - won't work
if the door was open to start with, and how do you work out if someone if
going in/out?

Still think an Active (would give greater range) RFID tag is the way to
go.....

I know im probably a bit late with this and dont know alot about it
but what about using recessed reed switches in doorways insted of beam
breakers.
Also whats to say rfid tage need to be implanted they could just as
easily be used in a badge or a card or something.
