I've wanted something similar to what you're looking for ages but not
been
able to find what I want...

All I want is a dect answerphone system with the ability to plug it into a
LAN socket and the PSTN so I can receive and make calls via either - I
don't
want the phone to do any of the modem/router crap or act as WLAN base
station.

Closest I've seen so far is a Siemens system (Gigaset C450 IP) but that
doesn't have an answerphone
