RE: Quietish PC

No, all mine are built from scratch using Asus P4 800 boards and Intel
P4 CPU's. I was recommended the Asus boards for 24/7 stability and I must
say they have been rock solid, I think though there's lots to choose from
these days though :-)
If you want a NICE case then I think these are great from LinITX, all three
of mine are in these: http://linitx.com/product_info.php?products_id=476
. Nice VFD in the front panel :-)

Rob,

Did you take a 'normal' PC and make them quiet - or did you start with
something better before hand ?

Oh - and does anyone know if people still do desktop cases - to replace my
Shuttle i would need a desktop orientated case.

I can also strongly recommend the Zalman flowers, I have them in all three
of the PC's I run 24/7. Also take a look at the Zalman Northbridge cooler
(If you have a fan on the mobo) and also the resistor cables are very good
at quietening down case fans. The other big noise generator is often the
PSU
in my experience. All my PC's now run the excellent Silverstone near silent
PSU's from LinITX.com, they also stock the resistor cables.
If you really want to go "all out" fit a Zalman graphics card
cooler (If
your card has a fan) but be aware that it makes the card v.wide and you
will
loose a PCI slot, also a Zalman Hard Drive Caddy and add some sound
deadening to the case.
Do all of this and you will be amazed at how quite you can make a PC!
www.quietpc.com is a good source of info but I have found better service
and
pricing from www.linitx.com and www.overclockers.co.uk.

HTH

Rob
