Nope - as Rob and I have both tried to make clear we had no problem at all
in getting the Mac to send data to the printer and the printer receive that
data ...

... The problem we were having was actually getting a printer driver
installed (and useable) that wasn't in the list of printers that were
natively supported under OSX when it was first installed but was added
later
using the manufacturers (HP in this case) own Mac OSX driver installer.

i.e. if we set up the printer with the "Generic Postscript"
driver then the
printer would receive a proper PostScript datastream - we just couldn't
find
the printer driver that the HP printer driver installer was supposed to
have
added to the system.
