How do you plan on using the CCTV cameras and recording - a machine to
do both might be OK if you don't want to record the CCTV cameras or run the
Geovision software during the times when you want to edit movies but trust
me, you DON'T want to run them together. As the Geovision software takes a
fair bit of CPU power, your movie software is going to be performing pretty
poorly - if at all. It won't be a good edit experience!

Aye ... but I'm looking to run in a 'Mac network, so it might be the
most stable approach !
I guess Linux might be a better choice than 'XP, but Idratek seems only
to work with 'Windows ...
There's also the thought that once having got cameras & associated
software, for HA, it might be a smallish step to go on to making
home-movies ... then again, that's probably daft, because iMovie would
presumably be the more sensible approach to that ...
