I had the opportunity in July to try a TomTom GO300 back to back with a
Navman (model 510 I think it was). I eventually went with the TomTom but
that was only because I could US maps easier for the TomTom than the
Navman. I only had the two units together for a couple of days but I much
prefered the Navman. The way it graphically showed its route I found better
that the TT. It gave an overview a little like the current BBC weather
maps (!) zooming through it before settling on a predefined view of the
journey start. I also liked the 'pocketability' of the Navman unit.

However having used the TT for 3 weeks in the US I wouldn't be without one
in the car now. It only went wrong twice - once it completely shutdown for
no apparent reason in the middle of a thunder storm (not sure if that's
related & it powered up again okay in a few seconds) and secondly it
did try to get us to go the wrong way up a one way street.

The best use of the TT was its POI though - something i never got to try
with the Navman. Anytime we were looking for something; gas station,
restaurant, shop, you name it we found the nearest one far quicker than
normal.
