Re: Another route to small scale NAS?
It seems that you can attach an IDE drive to the IDE port on-board=20=20
and an external USB storage drive via the USB port. You can also=20=20
attach a printer, so could be used as a print server too.
The panel apparently is meant to fit most standard SCSI external=20=20
drive enclosures.
I needed extra storage and have been trying to move away from having=20=20
PC's switched on all the time just to provide storage - due to power=20=20
consumption and fire-risk etc. I like the look of this because the=20=20
clients do not need any drivers or software, so Linux, Mac OSX and=20=20
Windows all work. And it is easily scaleable, low cost and allows=20=20
you to use your old drives.
Did anyone try out the Netgear SC101 (Toaster) yet?
I would have gone that route if, but the fact it only supports=20=20
Windows at the moment and requires software to be installed on the=20=20
client put me off. I went the Buffalo Terastation route with a=20=20
1TB unit and it arrived last week. I think it is probably still=20=20
=A3150 overpriced, but have been very impressed with it.
Cheers,
Mark
