I just stuffed some Rockwool behind all of mine, but with 25+ speakers, I
couldn't be ar$ed to mess around with back boxes, though most are only used
for background music, so positioning wasn't of paramount importance. Some
other fitting tips (which in hindsight are obvious):

- cut the holes a little larger than needed (just a mm or 2). Being
'exact'
is both difficult and might mean you need to give the speaker a good shove
to get it in the hole, which is fine, until you try a fit the grill....
- When you pull the cable through as you put the ceiling up, remember to
allow enough space for the hole between the joists. Again, I know this is
obvious stuff, but....
- Use an electric screwdriver with care, as the plastic clamps that bolt
the
speaker to the ceiling seem a bit fragile
- A holecutter makes the job easy
(http://www.toolstation.com/messages.html?code=84341

&mainWin=1),
but might be OTT if you're only installing a couple (in which case a jigsaw
will do).

Subject: [ukha_d] In Ceiling speakers - tips?

Im just about to fit some ceiling speakers in dining room during
decorating. I'm looking for tips, as it seems a bit experimental to get
the sound right, and I only have one shot at the placement, due to
access from above, new ceiling etc

I am probably going to fit the Sonance CR101, as they seem reasonable
price, and I could upgrade later.

>From what I have read in avrious instruction manuals, and ukha archive,
they should:

Not be on a center line of room
At least 2 feet away from walls
Different distance from each ajoining wall, in the corner
6-10 feet apart

Looking in the install guide for sonance:

"All Sonance speakers are designed to be relatively insensitive to
changes in enclosure volume. To achieve the ultimate performance
from the CR series speakers, a section of the ceiling bay can be
sectioned off to form a back box. Building this enclosure will create a
dramatic improvement in the quality of bass response and power
handling."

Is it the norm to build a 'back box'?

Any tips /do's /don'ts etc?

TIA

Craig
