[OT] New Tom Tom One

Tom Tom recently launched a new self-contained sat nav system, the
TomTom One, and I bought one to replace a Go that was stolen
previously. Here's a mini review.
The One is much smaller (and cheaper) sucessor to the Go series - it
is about the thickness of a paperback; it will readily slip into an
overcoat pocket. The screen is the same size as earlier models but the
reduced bulk of the unit somehow makes it seem smaller!
The GPS receiver is incredibly sensitive - a huge improvement over the
Go 300, which wasn't bad in itself. Sensitivity is so good that I've
read elsewhere that this unit can apparently see through some athermic
windscreens e.g. as found on the Laguna.
Functionally it's pretty much the same as a Go 300 - but adds the
ability to plan routes/navigate on foot and bicycle. Presumably
because the unit is smaller, real world rechargeable battery life is
halved to around 3 hours. The car mount design has changed a bit, and
you have to actually plug the power cable into the base of the One
itself rather than the docking cradle, which is a minor faff.
Woolworths have stock at 275, and you get a
fiver-off-your-next-purchase voucher back. Staples have spotty stock,
but if you open a business account with them you can then get 20% off
purchases on the day.
