A regular modem cable does the trick, and the data packet seems to be
fairly
easy to break down: it sends out a "status" message every now and
then,
which seems to have an incrementing counter at the end of it, so you should
be able to figure out how long a program has been on for as well...
If you fancy seeing it, I have it hooked up just now :)

So do you use a nul modem cable or would a standard serial link do it?
