I haven't tried with 5.5, but I'm pretty sure the mobile client will talk
to
5.5. You will need an SSL on the exchange server though. It uses http or
https to connect... I think that with Pocket PC it *must* be https, which
is
fair enough really. I know that with Smartphone you can tell it to use
plain http instead (not that I'd recommend that! - Okay for testing
though).
With regards to pushing, rather than pulling, you can setup Exchange
(again,
certainly 2003, possibly 5.5) to effectively push to your phone by using
SMS. It's not something I've tried as I just have my phone to check every
30 minutes via GPRS, which is enough for me.
One of the nice things is that if the device is connected to a PC (via
cable
or bluetooth), then it can automatically use the internet connect on the PC
rather than GPRS, which means that when I'm in the office, I can check my
home Exchange server
every 5 minutes without worrying about GRPS cost (I also use Exchange at
the
office, so can't connect to both servers at the same time on my PC).
Have to say that in my case, a MS Smartphone (C500) and Exchange Server is
absolutely ideal. So much so, that we've rolled out the same set-up to
some
of our staff in the office on the company Exchange server... Now if only I
could connect to two Exchange servers at the same time :-).
HTH,
A.
