Is it worth setting up a poll, to gauge the true opinion of everyone, then
go with the majority?
Personally I like it exactly as it is - I do use forums, but not regularly,
and not offline, as I can with this ultra-simple email list. Even after a
week away from email, it only took me 5 mins to filter out what I didn't
want to look at, so that's fine by me. I really don't see the issue with
just looking at the title and hitting delete if it's of no interest. This
is, after all, a discussion group; sure, some of the posts are widely OT,
or
just plain lazy, but that's only by virtue of the fact that people know
that
there's a wealth of knowledge on here.
In some senses it really should be self-limiting, in that if someone asks a
numpty question that Google could answer in a second, then most people just
won't bother to reply. It's a shame that some on-topic messages get
missed,
but equally that's a symptom of a mature list, in that most of us have
discussed the virtues of X10 vs Zwave vs CBus etc etc many times over, so
it
can sometimes take a while for someone to compose an answer. Of course,
that's what we're here for, but all mailing lists are like that to some
extent.
