Noooo.....
If youa re going .net, learh C# - vb experience does not help with vb.net
because you have to learn the framework more than the language.
If you learn C# then you can also write mono apps to run on linux.....

Wrox press books (but only get ONE as they tend to repeat), orielly or even
microsoft press (eg anything by dino esposito)

Also check out gotdotnet.com for lots os samples of how to do things.
