Downloading BBC Radio Streams...??

You all seem like a clever bunch here so I'm hoping you can help me
out on this one.

I want to find a way to save the BBC Radio streams direct to my
computer without having to go the route of recording in real time the
stream.  I have found a few pages which give me the direct links to
each show so at least I can bypass the radio player but I'd really
like to be able to download them in any format...real player or
something I assume and then convert them to mp3.

I want this so I have access to a number of radio shows around the
house so it is HA etc related!!
