The cable rating is also dependant on the method of installation, if the
cable runs through
insulation, is grouped with any other cables along its run, runs through
areas of high temperature etc it needs to be derated as they all have a
bearing on the current carrying capacity of the cable.

The length of the cable determines the voltage drop which should not be
greater then 9.2v on a 230v circuit

Hi,

I did a few checks yesterday and 2.5mm T&E seemed to be rated at 27A...
But your argument still holds - thus I'm assuming that this is why you
need much 'thicker' cable for radial circuits (e.g. Cooker, Shower)
and even then the thickness is dependent upon the length of the cable
being run.
