After moving to the US recently one of the first things I bought was a
46" DLP HD TV (well why not ;).
Compared to the visual (as opposed to entertainment) quality of normal
transmissions over here I am very impressed, I currently get about 15 HD
channels via cable including the main channels like ESPN, FOX, CBS etc.
I think that some of the channels may start using 1080p over here but most
are either 780p or 1080i (my tv is a 780p and will convert anything to
that).

I have to admit to being dramatically underwhelmed by HD so far - the
video samples floating around are very, very nice... but the DRM
handcuffs make it a complete no-no.
Unless the copyright environment looks a whole lot looser, I really
don't fancy making the switch. I bought a lot of stuff on VHS, then
bought a lot of that again on DVD, I'm damned if I'm going to be buying
it again in HD, unless I get some freedom of usage!
Ian.

Does anyone do 1080p?
The bandwith requirements on 1080p are immense and I don't know anywhere
that is broadcasting in 1080p ... 1080i is as good as you'll get and
720p has been accepted as the European HiDef standard as far as I know.
