Something fishy going on there ;-)

Can you drop the data rate?
Wind the power supply up on the aquarium computer (sticking with the
specified range of course!!!)?
Use two MSS100s back to back?
Use a cat5 usb extender (from cpc.co.uk?) and a USB serial converter?
