I sold that unit because it wouldnt default to the setting I need.

Mebe a trip to B&Q/Homebase for a demo is needed.

Ahh, I see the problem!! Does your unit allow a remote room sensor to be
fitted? If so you could leave the unit on and in cooling mode and wire in
a
resistor directly rather than the thermistor sensor. Switching between 2
fixed resistances will force the unit to run when needed as it will think
the room temp is either way above or way below setpoint - it's not too
difficult to find out the thermistor types used by the different
manufacturers, but you can only do this if the unit supports a remote room
sensor in the first place.

I did have a HomeBase unit that has buttons and a digital display - only
problem was when you turn it on it reset to 24 degrees and no a/c.

If you know of a digital one that defaults to a/c and lowest temperature
then it's not a problem.

And yes I never intended to hack the a/c unit - just an x10 appliance
module for example.
