>>Ahhh, and in that lies the 'real' holy grail of HA.

At the risk of sounding controversial I think the Holy Grail of HA are
systems that are usable by "all". Not us techies, anoraks and
geeks.
It must be simple to implement, easy to use (By Anyone!) and 100% reliable.
Does the web brick do this, no! Would a xPL or xAP enabled web brick do
this, no!
Would a packaged, boxed product with clear, concise, usable by all
software,
YES.
We all slate Microsoft (and sometimes for good reason.) but who has just
made HTPC a reality for almost everyone in their homes?

/me climbs back into his hole and realises we'll get there one day :-)
/me is just inpatient. :-p

Many thanks,

Rob

Ahhh, and in that lies the 'real' holy grail of HA. Interfacing an LCD to
the unit is not an option from what I have read. Given its function this is
not unexpected either. Jus try to think of the things you would want to
display on the unit and then think of everyone else's needs and it suddenly
becomes impractical and a distraction to its true purpose in life.

The question you might ask yourself is how can I interface to it using xAP
or xPL, our two new open everything HA suites? Answer that question and you
are 50% of the way to FAF. The other 50% is a controller that looks
gorgeous, costs next to nothing and is not a PC (very low WAF in my house
where a PC is concerned).

Any ideas anyone? (OK - on the xAP or xPL question anyway...........)

If you get either of these in there then a screen is a distinct possibility
from one of the crowd (including me) who use PIC, Atmel and Rabbit chips to
name a few.
My current project (still a long way from completion) can send to, receive
from and take actions on received data with these units. It does this using
the relatively simple UDP messaging available. Could be looking good for a
screen after all ;-))

Ian

I also assume FAF has the alternative but just as important meaning of
Finance Acceptance Factor ;-))

Please respond to

I'm already trying to find the cash to buy one!

Now, can we add an LCD display or something like that to it, so I can
have a slightly nicer UI to get a higher WAF. (or in my case, FAF,
Fiance Acceptance Factor)

Simon
