Centralised Audio File Repository and Automatic Updating of Clients

Has anyone got a solution to the problem of having a single centralised
database of audio files which allows different PCs in the house to access
and more importantly, will pick allow multiple clients to register\update
themselves of any additions to the database automatically.

Most of the packages I have used will allow you to access a network share
on
a file server to pick up files but don't automatically update the client
software with any new files that are added.

I've seen some that will monitor a directory for new additions but my main
files are sorted by Artist, Album and consists of nearly 70GB of stuff. I
just want an easy way for the various PCs in the house to be able to pick
up
additions to the Audio directory without having to go to each PC and
manually add them in.

I quite like iTunes and use that to organise my files automatically but
that
doesn't appear to allow you to have multiple itunes clients all using the
same library (or does it?). I know you can switch on Muscv Sharing but this
has never been completely reliable on some of the older PCs which I've put
down to the sheer volume of files.

I'd be interested to know how other people get around this problem?

Don
