I didn't see too many constructive suggestions ;-) but I have spotted
this in an industrial automation mag:

A mini-ITX mobo with onboard Gig-LAN and single PCI slot. IIRC you can
get a two-slot riser card for some mini-ITXs, dunno if it would be
compatible with this one though. Usual other features of the mini-ITX
range and it takes a Pentium-M so shouldn't be *too* much of a slouch.
I couldn't find a price, but I'm sure a bit more googling would give
that up too.
