RE: Network Attached Storage as MP3 jukebox?
Seconded - make sure the RocketRAID card is running on a current BIOS (the
older bios versions had some (ahem) issues!)=20
I'm running 5 x 120Gb, and looking to upgrade to 200s just asap :)
Also, consider using an older OS - I use Windows NT Server 4 and for speed
(both speed of booting, and speed of access) it's just miles ahead of any
later OS. Pretty damn stable with SP6a on it as well.
Ian.
PS> only provisio: Don't run NT4 exposed to the Internet - only behind a
firewall.

Something like a Highpoint RocketRAID 404 (will take eight IDE drives and
d=
o
RAID5) will cost you about a ton (I use one) and 200Gb IDE drives are =A362
(*INC VAT* :-O ) from www.komplett.co.uk.
I was using 8 x 160Gb drives on one (as RAID0) for ages with no problems.
I have now moved all 16 x 160Gb drives out into some external 8 bay
firewir=
e
enclosures and need to start populating the Highpoint card with some bigger
drives again as I'm running desperately short on space.
