Yes, assuming they already run on the same circuit from the consumer unit
(same fuse or breaker) just put the two circuits on a single switch

No, unless the ambience the electrician was trying to recreate was that of
Blackpool Illuminations! Added to which, the total your house would draw
from the grid would still be the same as it you turned the existing
switches
on at the same time :-)
