Try Mercury/32 from www.pmail.com... Free too...

I've been running it for a couple of years, no problems at all. It even
does IMAP, so you can leave all the email on the server and access it
from any client and/or via webmail (I use SquirrelMail for webmail).
Very light on resources and runs on Windows.
