Garage Car Automation - I need a magentic repeller

I've been thinking about "automating" the block of wood I have on
the
floor in the garage to act as a car stop - and I did post on the group a
while back on actuators or deadbolts - but cant find one with a decent
throw to lift something out of the floor.

So what about a electromagnetic device, that repels when a voltage is
applied ? That was I can make a mechanism that lifts when the voltage is
applied.

What Im struggling on is the term to google for ! Any bright ideas ?

Anyone who suggests a tennis ball (again) should be banned from this HA
list !
