At the moment I'm using a Mac Mini (borrowed) as my main fileserver for
media and documents. I have 3 x 8 bay firewire to IDE enclosures currently
holding about 3Tb of drives (almost full).

Firewire on a Mac works - under Windows and Linux it works most of the time
(which basically means it can't be relied on and so "doesn't
work")
