I did some work recently with a chap who was using arrays of surface
mount LEDs individual RGB.

He was mounting them in strips and using a PWM to get various flavours
of 'white' light.

They were used in art galleries. No heat so minimum damage to old
masters etc. but also the colour temeperature could be adjusted by the
curators to give the 'correct' artistic effect.

Thanks for that - I'm still planning on drawing a few sketches over the
next couple of days. I'm currently thinking that two versions would be
needed - one that will simply deck or patio mount and is a simple fixed
surround. The other would act more as a tiltable light fixture so that I
can direct the light into bushes, trees and shine it up walls etc.

The controller does indeed use PWM chips. Have a look at the controller

We're doing a bulk buy of the circuit board and components.
Unfortunately this is now closed to new orders but the circuit diagram,
parts list and PIC code is freely available from Gerry's site above :)

The idea is to have fully controllable lighting of any colour and
animation of the colours and intensity :) I'll be linking this up to my
HA system so that I can have a waterproof remote in the spa and set
whatever patterns and colours I like - should be groovy! ;)
