Reusing an LVDS laptop screen?

So, my ooooold laptop died - the screen is fine, but the motherboard
gradua=
lly died over the course of a couple of weeks.
=09
And stripping the laptop to bits (as you do) I'm struck by what a
senseless=
waste it would be to fling a working, very nice, 14.1" screen in the
skip =
for lack of a way to drive it.

Except, all of the driver boards I can see for LVDS screens cost an
absolut=
ely ludicrous amount (read: around =A3300, which would buy an actual
*lapto=
p* of this age).=20

So, has anyone found a way of using old laptop screens for ha controller
pa=
nels (ie, as a vga screen)?

Given that some sites are now selling refurbed 15" tft monitors for
=A350, =
I'd say anything more than abour =A330 renders the solution pointless, as
i=
t's then cheaper to just buy a vga tft monitor and strip the plastics
inste=
ad..

Ian.
