I used to use the PC's parallel port as a "free" digital I/O many
years ago.
It was simpler to do back in the good ol' DOS days.  Nowadays, one needs to
use a parallel port driver under Windows.  Of course, I don't know if it'd
be fast enough for you, but you might look into it.

Has anyone got any ideas how I would connect half a dozen Xantech 490-
00 MICRO LINK IR Receivers (or similar) to a PC so I can write some
code that responds to the IR signals depending upon the IR code sent
and which zone it came from. Hope this makes sense.
