Before thinking about scraping your X-10 system, it might be worth
considering the installation of an X-10 signal repeat/amplifier to boost
the signal level to, hopefully, above the noise floor.

ACT do a range of effective coupler/repeaters which, for the CR244 anyway,
would boost the X-10 signal from a few hundred mV to 5V. That should
ensure a healthy X-10 signal everywhere in the house, assuming the noise
level is well below that.
