RE: Kitchen PC & Processing power

I have a Dimension 8200. It has a 2Ghx Pent IV with only 128 MB RAM. I
ha=
ve
a Hauppauge PVR 350 in it. Until recently I stored all of the family MP3's
and pictures on that box and shared them out to other machines around the
house. I performed all of these functions well and I never noticed any lag
or sluggish behaviour from the box. It is connected to the LAN via a 11mbs
wireless card.

Recently however I have moved all of the MP3 and pictures to another
centrally located PC in readiness for the arrival of the much heralded KAT5
units from Keith Doxey. (In fact I had an email from him this morning
sayi=
ng
they will be posted today - wa hey) The reason I ask about budget is that
the machine I just made PIV 3Ghz, 1Gb RAM, 160GB SATA, Multi Region DVD RW
only cost approx =A3380. A snip me thinks.=20=20

Hopefully some ideas there for you.

Regards

Anthony

I'm very pleased with the 12" screen, it looks great in the kitchen,
and th=
e
resolution is good enough for kitchen use. Its the main unit I want to
upgrade, with just enough power that it will run normal applications well

What CPU do you have?

Simon
