BT are currently running a trial of Fibre to the premises with real
users/households. It might not be soon but it is being looked at.

Fobre to the Premises requires somewhere nearby to hub from. The
cablecos run fibre to their street boxes, but BT dont. So expect it
from your cable supplier well before BT get there. They are already
within "the last mile" distance of your house, and have
understeet
trunking to get to you from their streetbox.
