Hi Mark,
This system certainly does exist although I'm not sure whether it's
available yet=20
I have seen it but not heard it.
Even though we are a KEF dealership we decided not to carry this system
because of the following reservations;
1. The satellite speakers are very, very small which is likely to make
the integration between these and the sub less convincing (although I
have to admit that having not heard the system, this is an assumption
based upon experience and existing prejudices)
2. The opportunities we get for putting sub-woofers in ceilings are very
limited due to ceiling voids, rafters, positioning, etc.
3. Whilst matching the speakers and sub-woofer ports to the lighting
sounds like a great idea, they obvioulsy don't light up, which to me
makes it look as though you've got a whole load of bulbs that have
blown.
4. Purely a commercial decision this one, we don't specify speaker
systems at this sort of price level (this is not a judgement of the
system in any way purely a reflection of the level of the market we
cater for)
Despite point 2, we have, on occasions, put sub-woofers in ceilings with
great success, although positioning relative to the listening position
has been favourable.
Contact me off list of you need any more info.

Subject: [ukha_d] Kef Soundlight Speaker System
At the Homebuilding Show at Wembley a few months ago I picked up a=20
leaflet from a Kef reseller about the Soundlight system. This is 4 of=20
their mini in ceiling speakers and a subwoofer box that sits in the=20
ceiling void and directs its sound through 2 flexible tubes into=20
ports that look the same as the 4 other speakers. The idea is that=20
the speaker system blends in with the look of ELV halogen down=20
lighters that are popular these days. Apparently this system costs=20
about =A3300 retail.
I am doing a self-build at the moment and am worried about the sonic=20
range of these mini in-ceiling speakers, but a subwoofer would go=20
some way to make it more acceptable.
I have two questions, has anyone seen or heard of this product? a=20
Google doesn't return any results, I know I didn't dream it because I
still have the leaflet. Secondly, I read somewhere once=20
that humans are naturally attuned for higher frequencies coming from=20
above and lower ones from below. With the sub up in the ceiling, I=20
wonder how that would effect the listening experience. I know my gym=20
have Bose subs tucked up among the pipes and stuff in the ceiling=20
area and the noise is quite disconcerting. Has anyone got subs off=20
the ground, and does it sound ok?
