Well, sending IR via the PDA/server to the MVP would be just as slow.  In
fact, it'd be slower, and probably less reliable.  You'd need to
investigate another control method to speed it up.  I wonder if (seeing as
it runs Linux), you could ssh to it and run commands natively, or perhaps
XPL-enable the device?  Who knows - it's beyond me.
