What are you using for the video card Jon?
Is there a standard hardware list for MC 2005? I believe the 2004 version
was 'fussy' about hardware?
For instance can you install MC 2005 without any tuner cards (A function
that doesn't really interest me.)

Many thanks,

Rob

The concept of the MVP is a good one but I too find it too slow to use
regularly. It does a good job at playing back VCD images ( have been
watching series 2 of The Apprentice for my sins) but lacks the immediacy I
strive for when navigating and playing back MP3s.

If I can settle the hardware spec, I'm about to replace the Netgem freeview
box, MVP and DVD player with a Media Centre 2005 PC. Just got to find a
nice looking case and a P4 motherboard with optical audio out _on the back_
and I think I am there. I am also considering adding a pair of DVB
(freeview) tuners from http://www.blackgold.tv/ .

It's not simple because the software is crap. I think the hardware can do
all that is needed (and pretty well), but it's let down by a slow and
clunky
interface. It really needs to run the menus natively, rather than by the
PC
server sending an entire image to be displayed every time a button is
pressed. I think I feel a rant about html-based interfaces coming on...

Having said that - I don't know of any player that is any better. IMO a TV
menu is essential - I don't want to search through 15000 MP3s on a 4 line
display!
