One thing to consider is what you want displayed in a WHOIS search. When
you register a name some companies register it in your name (eg
UKREG/FASTHOSTS does) and others in theirs. You can use this to your
advantage. There are some companies that offer 'private' registration -
they store your details in their database, but register the name for you.
If you do something illegal then the police could get your details, but an
ordinary WHOIS won't give your name and address.

What do other people do about this?

My brother wants to grab a domain name for his new company. It's going to
end it .com - but I notice that these are a lot more expensive than .co.uk.
I suspect that the company I used (Netbenefit) is quite expensive
(=A335pa)=
,
so I'm looking for somewhere that will register a .com for a more
reasonabl=
e
fee. Hosting is not decided yet, but will probably be with a different
company (so no combined packages or restrictions wanted).

I'm sure this has come up before, but it's impossible to search for domain
related stuff with Yahoo's helpful advert at the bottom of each message :-(
