Alas, true.

If you're accepting large amounts of cash from someone, you should ask
to see ORIGINALS, and make copies, of:

- Their passport
- A recent utility bill or bank statement confirming their address

In an ideal world, you should go down to your local bank with the chap
giving you the cash, and ask HIM to hand the cash and documentation to
them, and ask THEM to take certified copies of his documentation.

It's important that you ask to see the ORIGINALS, and don't just
accept a photocopy of his/her passport. After all, I've lost count of
the number of people who've had to, because of this legislation, take
copies of my passport, and I refuse to believe that every estate agent
/ broker / solicitor I deal with vets every single member of their
staff with 100% success :-)
